Architecture scenarios

Illustrative architecture scenarios showing components, tradeoffs, and validation criteria for common workloads.

API + database

Context. A product team needs a web API with durable state and a clear release path.

Components. Application service, database, secrets, network boundary, health checks, backups, and observability.

Proposed flow. Create the project, connect the database, configure environment values, review the request, promote through a non-production environment, then validate health before production.

Risks. Schema changes, credential exposure, network reachability, and recovery assumptions.

Validation criteria. Repeatable configuration, tested backup/restore, observable health, and an explicit rollback path.

Worker and jobs

Context. A team needs asynchronous work, scheduled runs, and a record of outcomes.

Components. Worker, queue or scheduler, durable state, retry policy, logs, and an operator owner.

Proposed flow. Define the job contract, configure dependencies, run a bounded test, observe retries and failure handling, and document replay or rollback.

Risks. Duplicate work, unbounded retries, partial completion, and unclear ownership.

Validation criteria. Idempotency, visible execution history, bounded retries, and a tested recovery procedure.

Internal AI tool

Context. An internal team wants an AI-assisted workflow with controlled access and reviewable outputs.

Components. Web interface, model connection, prompt/configuration boundary, data access controls, audit context, and rate limits.

Proposed flow. Define allowed inputs, connect the required provider, test representative tasks with redacted data, and review access and retention before wider use.

Risks. Sensitive data exposure, incorrect output, provider availability, and unclear human approval.

Validation criteria. Access boundaries, redaction, traceable actions, fallback behavior, and a named reviewer.
